A WALDORF WAY
-
LAND BASED CURRICULUM
Through nature exploration, nature crafting, gardening, and stories we build the foundations for healthy relationship with the non-human world, grounded in reciprocity.
-
RHYTHM
We move in daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythms, building memory and developing a strong sense of well-being. With consistent and loving guidance children can establish comfort, trust, and safety.
-
STORY TELLING & PUPPETRY
Orality is the precursor to literacy and celebrates the beauty of universal human traditions. Not only do stories build sequencing and imaginative capacities, they are powerful tools for healing.
-
FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT
When children feel at home in their bodies they are more able to build resiliency and courage. Physical exploration develops gross and fine motor skills, strengthening coordination and proprioception.
-
REVERENCE
To offer a sense of beauty demonstrated with respect and gratitude is a simple gift in a complicated world. It can build responsibility to care for our things, each other and our environment, encouraging full participation in daily life.
-
FREE & IMAGINATIVE PLAY
Uninterrupted play is the true work of the child! They develop creative thinking, problem solving, build cooperation and skills in conflict resolution. Play provides needed opportunities to work through their emotional lives without judgment or pressure.
TESTIMONIALS
“When the opportunity for a Kinder program at Mountain Song presented itself, the choice felt natural. Our child was able to sink into a rhythm that suited both her and our family’s needs. She thrived in the intimate setting, with plenty of time outdoors to move through her day. Her body and spirit benefited from a slow rhythm when her mind was processing new knowledge and ideas.
Together, with the teachers, our goal was to keep our child’s love for learning ignited. Her watercolors and written work are something she is most proud of and enjoys. Throughout the year, she has also loved coming home to talk about a particular story or revisit a topic she learns at school.
We value the emphasis on oral storytelling and free play (even at 6), the very thoughtfully curated and nourishing meals, the rest supported environment and the mixed aged classroom at Mountain Song.
Miss Hannah and Teacher Sky gave our child a space outside of our home to feel heard, supported, and loved.”
